Take This Message To My Brother
In Dallas this afternoon the police say there were from 350,000 to half a million people marching to protest the racist bigots (or panderers thereto) who comprise the Republican majority in Congress. The city had less than 1.2 million people counted in 2000, so that would be one-third to one-half of the population. Of course they were not all Hispanics (and just as surely they were mostly citizens and not "illegals"). Some of the Anglos are glowing red now after parading under that clear sunny sky, and will be much browner tomorrow. Local TV covered it, but managed almost no discussion of the issues at stake -- it all became a social event to the media, like a huge Thanksgiving Day parade. Let us hope at least that some politicians pay attention.

that's pathetic that the local media is so beanbrained as not touch on any of the issues raised by this huge political display ...
Now..will someone PLEASE tell me why is it that these folks voted in vast majorities for the GOP? And why they Think that they are *allowed* into the "Big Tent"?
Bleh!
Actually, they mostly did not vote for W. The city of Dallas itself voted for Kerry. A lot of the others did not vote at all, even though they are citizens, because the percentage of turnout here among Hispanics in particular was quite low. I have a feeling they will remember next time, with all these Republican attacks on them as un-American.
One girl who marched yesterday had been told by a schoolmate that he knew she'd oppose the new legal barriers because that would force her parents to go home. Of course her parents are both citizens (one was born here), but don't bother bigots with facts.
